Visiting Companions Program

VISITING COMPANIONS PROGRAM

Through Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly’s free Visiting Companions program, elders who feel isolated and lonely can bring the joy of companionship back into their lives!

When you join, you will be matched with a Visiting Companion who is excited to build a special friendship with you! Matches are based on common interests and location. You and your Visiting Companion can plan at least two visits a month. All Visiting Companions have attended an orientation and have cleared background checks.

The Visiting Companions program is available to you if you:

  • Are 65 years or older
  • Live in the Twin Cities area
  • Lack family who live locally, or have few friends or other social connections
  • Feel isolated and lonely

To join LBFE’s Visiting Companions program, please download, complete and return the Elder Referral Form.

FRIENDSHIP AND FLOWERS PROGRAM

Elders who are homebound or in a care facility and have few visits from family or friends may be eligible for LBFE’s monthly Friendship and Flowers visits. On the third Saturday of every month, volunteer visitors bring fresh flowers, homemade cookies and friendly conversation. The elders eagerly look forward to the monthly visit – they love the cookies, and truly appreciate the company!

The Friendship and Flowers program is available to you if you:

  • Are 65 years or older
  • Live in the Twin Cities area
  • Are alert and oriented
  • Have very few social interactions or visits from family or friends.
  • Are homebound (that is, cannot leave home without considerable and taxing effort).

To request Friendship and Flowers visits for yourself or another, please download, complete and return the Friendship and Flowers Referral Form.
